About the Event
Join us this winter from the comfort of your home for our 6-week, online, Mindful Self-Compassion-Essentials (MSC-E) group. The group will be facilitated by Monique Mercier, Bryan MacLeod, and Kimberly Gerrish.
Each of the 6 sessions will be 90 mins in length with a short break in the middle. We will be learning about and practicing the science and art of self-compassion together through teachings, short exercises, written reflection, and group discussion. There will be weekly summaries emailed to participants with clickable links to reinforce the teachings and practices offered in the training.
Most people don't think that it's a good thing to be kind to themselves. They worry that it's weak or that they will lose motivation. In fact, the research shows us just the opposite is true:
1. Self-compassionate people are better able to cope with tough situations like divorce (Sbarra, Smith & Mehl, 2012), trauma (Hiraoka et al., 2015), or chronic pain (Wren et al, 2012).
2. Self-compassionate people have high personal standards; they just don’t beat themselves up when they fail (Neff, 2003b). This means they are less afraid of  failure (Neff, Hseih, & Dejitthirat, 2007) and are more likely to  try again and to persist in their efforts after failing (Breines  & Chen, 2012).
A sample teaching from the course on the physiology of self-criticism and self-compassion can be found here: https://mscnorth.com/emotional-regulation
